Some romance audiobooks are pleasant background listening. The Deal by Elle Kennedy is not that. This is the book that launched the Off-Campus series and turned Elle Kennedy into one of the most beloved romance authors of the past decade — and in audio, narrated by Lorelei Avalon and Christian Fox, it is even better than the page version.
What Is The Deal About?
Hannah Wells needs a tutor to pass her music theory exam. Garrett Graham — star hockey player, campus golden boy — needs a fake girlfriend to make his ex jealous. What starts as a transactional arrangement between two people who have nothing in common becomes something neither of them planned for. It is a slow burn done right: funny, sharp, emotionally honest, and genuinely steamy when it gets there.
Kennedy's writing has a wit and self-awareness that sets it apart from the genre's more formulaic entries. Hannah is a fully realised character with a backstory that gives the romance real emotional weight. Garrett is charming without being insufferable. Together, they are one of the great romance pairings in contemporary fiction.
Why the Audiobook Version Works So Well
Dual narration is the natural format for a romance told from two perspectives, and Lorelei Avalon and Christian Fox are an excellent pairing. Avalon brings warmth and dry humour to Hannah's chapters; Fox captures Garrett's cocky exterior and the vulnerability underneath it with impressive range. The banter between their two voices crackles in a way that is genuinely fun to listen to.
"Lorelei Avalon and Christian Fox make Garrett and Hannah feel like real people having real conversations. The chemistry translates perfectly to audio."
Narration Quality
Both narrators are experienced romance audiobook performers and it shows. The comedic timing is sharp, the emotional scenes land without melodrama, and the pacing keeps the story moving at exactly the right speed. Production quality is clean throughout.
Is The Deal Worth Your Audible Credit?
