Creature horror · Entrée mini-review
Devolution
A remote eco-community collapses into a desperate fight for survival after a devastating eruption isolates it from the outside world.
A little more about the listen
Devolution takes the documentary impulse of World War Z and traps it in one isolated community. The horror comes from the collision between technology, self-belief, and an enemy that does not care how sophisticated the community thinks it is. The result is tense, physical, and surprisingly interested in group psychology.
The listening experience
Judy Greer gives the central account a grounded presence, while Jeff Daniels, Nathan Fillion, Kate Mulgrew, and the ensemble make the community’s confidence and panic feel distinct. The voices help the social experiment unravel in real time.
Best for
Listeners who like survival horror, creature features, and ensemble character tension.
Worth considering for listeners who like survival horror, creature features, and ensemble character tension.
The honest note
The book spends time establishing the community before the worst arrives, so the escalation is earned rather than immediate.
