Fourth Wing Audiobook Review — Rebecca Yarros's Dragon-Filled Epic

Fantasy romance has never sounded quite like this. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros arrived in 2023 and immediately became a cultural phenomenon — and the audiobook, narrated by Rebecca Soler and Teddy Hamilton, is arguably the best way to experience it. This is a listen that will consume your entire weekend if you let it.

What Is Fourth Wing About?

Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribes Quadrant. Instead, her mother — a powerful general — forces her into Basgiath War College's Riders Quadrant, where students bond with dragons or die trying. Violet is small, physically fragile, and surrounded by people who want her dead. The dragons, however, have other ideas.

What follows is a sweeping fantasy epic with a slow-burn romance that will make you want to throw your headphones across the room in frustration — in the best possible way. Yarros has created a world of genuine depth, with a magic system that feels earned and a cast of characters you'll become deeply invested in.

The Dual Narration

The decision to use dual narrators — Rebecca Soler for Violet's perspective and Teddy Hamilton for the male lead — is inspired. Soler brings Violet to life with intelligence, dry wit, and emotional vulnerability that makes her one of the most compelling fantasy heroines in recent memory. Hamilton's voice is perfectly calibrated for brooding intensity with flashes of unexpected warmth.

"The chemistry between the two narrators is palpable — even through headphones. Fourth Wing's dual narration is one of the best performances in fantasy audiobooks this decade."

Together, they create a listening experience that feels genuinely cinematic. The tension-filled scenes crackle with electricity, the battle sequences are visceral and exciting, and the romantic moments are genuinely swoon-worthy.

Production Quality

The production is excellent throughout — clean audio, consistent levels, and a runtime of just over 21 hours that never feels padded. The sequel, Iron Flame, is equally excellent, and having both in your Audible library is a genuinely dangerous combination for your sleep schedule.

Is Fourth Wing Worth Your Audible Credit?

If you enjoy fantasy, romance, or simply excellent storytelling, Fourth Wing is essential listening. It's the kind of audiobook that reminds you why you fell in love with stories in the first place. The dual narration elevates an already exceptional novel into something truly special.
