The Primal Hunter Book 2 Review & Reading Order
Jake’s progression continues as the wider world opens up. Here is where Book 2 fits, what changes after the opening adventure, and whether it earns another Audible credit.

The Primal Hunter 2
- Author: Zogarth
- Narrator: Travis Baldree
- Length: 19 hrs and 25 mins
- Release date: June 14, 2022
- Series position: The Primal Hunter, Book 2
If you have finished The Primal Hunter Book 1, the reading order question is straightforward: Book 2 is the correct next audiobook. It is not a side story, a prequel, or an optional detour. It continues Jake Thayne’s progression while widening the setting and the consequences around him.
The Primal Hunter Audiobook Reading Order
This is a series best listened to in publication order. The skills, system rules, relationships, and discoveries build on one another, so starting with Book 2 would remove much of the context that makes Jake’s choices meaningful.
What Changes in Book 2?
Book 1 establishes the shock of the system integration and Jake’s unusually solitary approach to survival. Book 2 takes that foundation and places him in a wider social environment. The story becomes more interested in what happens when a capable hunter has to operate around other people, competing interests, and a world that is much more organised than the first wilderness stretch suggested.
That change of scale is the main reason to continue. The pleasure is no longer only in watching Jake discover the next ability or defeat the next threat. It is also in seeing how the rules of the world connect to communities, resources, reputation, and the larger forces moving behind the immediate adventure.
Travis Baldree’s Performance
Travis Baldree remains a strong fit for the series. His performance keeps Jake’s controlled, observant personality at the centre while giving the supporting cast enough distinction to make the longer conversations easy to follow. The delivery is energetic when the action demands it, but it does not turn every scene into a performance at maximum volume.
If you enjoyed Baldree’s steady approach in Book 1, Book 2 feels consistent rather than radically reinvented. That continuity matters in a long progression series: the voice of the narrator becomes part of the listener’s sense of returning to the same world.
Curator’s advice before you spend a credit
Listen to Book 1 first, even if you have read a summary. The appeal of The Primal Hunter comes from gradual progression, and Book 2 assumes that the early rules, relationships, and discoveries are already familiar. If the solitary survival tone of Book 1 worked for you, the broader world in Book 2 is a reason to continue rather than a change of direction.
Is The Primal Hunter Book 2 Worth an Audible Credit?
Yes, provided you have already enjoyed Book 1. Book 2 is a dependable continuation with the same system-heavy progression, Travis Baldree’s familiar narration, and a larger sense of the world waiting beyond Jake’s immediate survival problem. It is a good choice for listeners who prefer long-form development over tightly compressed plots.
It may not be the right follow-up if you want a dramatic change of tone or a much more ensemble-driven story. For those listeners, He Who Fights with Monsters offers more dialogue and social friction, while Defiance of the Fall leans harder into cultivation alongside its LitRPG structure.
